Minister welcomes return to work order

13/02/2004

The WA Industrial Relations Commission has ordered striking rail workers to return to work.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan welcomed the decision.

The State Government sought the order after members of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union failed to return from a stopwork meeting where they voted on the Government's latest pay and conditions offer.

The Minister also welcomed the commission's decision to convene a meeting of parties on Sunday to further discuss a resolution to the dispute.

"It was crucial that this matter be given the utmost urgency because of its potential to create havoc within the community," Ms MacTiernan said.
