Extra train capacity for Royal Show

23/09/2004

Transperth is doubling the normal capacity of the Fremantle train line for the Royal Show.

Transperth director Mark Burgess said today that the line would be serviced by four-carriage trains for the duration of the Show – from the Saturday October 2 until Saturday October 9.

“To achieve this, the Loch Street and Grant Street Stations – at which the platforms cannot accommodate anything longer than two-car trains – will be closed for the duration of the Show,” Mr Burgess said.

“During this time we will be running shuttle bus services between the Swanbourne and Grant Street Stations, and the Karrakatta and Loch Street Stations.  The Grant Street shuttle will stop in Railway Street, adjacent to the stations, while the Loch Street shuttle will stop next to the stations in Stubbs Terrace.

“Passengers who use the shuttle bus services should be aware that the total journey will take longer than a conventional train journey, and plan accordingly.

“Also, passengers with special requirements should call 1800 800 022 an hour prior to travel to arrange travel assistance.”

Mr Burgess said normal train services would resume with the first train on the morning of Sunday October 10.

Other than some peak and special-event services, the Fremantle line usually runs only two-car sets.
