Platform upgrades complete at Merredin Station

Work to build a new accessible platform at Merredin Station is now complete.

The project included replacing the existing low-level platform with a raised one that is accessible via a ramp, the installation of new lighting, signage and fencing, and the permanent closure of the pedestrian crossing immediately east of the station to improve safety. The pedestrian crossing 180m further east is still open for community access.

The $1.7 million upgrades carried out at the 1960s-era building mean both platforms are now compliant with national Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) standards.

Merredin Station is a key cog in Transwa’s rail services and is used as the point where the Prospector trains cross on their respective journeys to Perth or Kalgoorlie.

As such, the new high-level platform will ensure passengers have an accessible and safe way to board and alight their services, especially on days when both Prospector trains are at the station at the same time.

The MerredinLink also accesses the station Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

It is the latest regional station to receiving DDA-compliant upgrades in recent years, joining the likes of Carrabin Station, Cookernup Station and North Dandalup Station.
