Pedestrian Level Crossing Upgrade Program
Work is underway to ensure that all pedestrian level crossings across the Transperth network are fully compliant with current Disability and Discrimination Act (DDA) standards.
The PTA is responsible for 100 pedestrian level crossings across the Perth metropolitan area on the Fremantle, Midland and Armadale lines. All crossings within the electrified Transperth network are fitted with the highest level of control, known as active controls, which include flashing lights and audible alarms to alert pedestrians of approaching trains, as well as gates to prevent access onto the tracks.
While pedestrian level crossings are safe if used correctly, they are considered the most significant hazard on any railway network due to either accidental or deliberate misuse. Until pedestrian level crossings are removed from the network, the PTA will continue to ensure their safe management, maintenance, and operation.
Station Accessibility Works
The PTA is undertaking an ongoing program of work to improve accessibility for passengers at stations across the public transport network. In accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, a range of minor works will be carried out to improve access to Transperth services for all passengers, regardless of their mobility requirements.
The program includes:
- Installation of signage
- Remediation of existing stairs
- Installation, replacement, or extension of handrails
- Installation or replacement of tactile paving
- Creation of accessible car bays and road-marking
Joondalup Toilet Refurbishment
The PTA are undertaking works to refurbish the toilets at Joondalup Station. The Universal Access Toilet (UAT) has been closed since late-2024 due to vandalism.
Whilst they are being refurbished, we are taking the opportunity to refurbish all toilets to ensure they are compliant with current Australian standards and disability access requirements.
All public toilet facilities will be closed from Thursday 16 October to Friday 12 December 2025.
Train Station Retiling
Works are ongoing to retile a number of train stations across the Transperth network. The project includes the retiling of floor and wall tiles at multiple stations to ensure they meet non-slip safety requirements.
Signage will be in place to safely direct passengers around the work site during construction. While every effort will be made to minimise impact, there might be some disruptions such as noise, dust and vibrations.
Bassendean Station Temporary Infrastructure Works
The Public Transport Authority are installing temporary infrastructure to support train replacement bus operations. These essential works will prepare Bassendean Station for the Midland Line shutdown between 22 January to 22 February 2026, when train replacement buses will operate between Midland and Bassendean stations for 31 days.
Works at Bassendean Station will include:
- Installation of temporary infrastructure to support train replacement bus operations
- Modification and relocation of the existing motorcycle shelter – west of the current location
- Occupation of approximately 85 parking bays (closest to the bus interchange) until March 2026
- ACROD bays will not be impacted
- Relocation of the drop-off/pick-up area – west of the ACROD bays
- Construction fencing to secure the work area throughout the works
Bassendean Station and the existing bus interchange will remain operational throughout works. Out-of-hours works are not anticipated. If there is a requirement nearby residents will be notified.
Works are expected to start on November 17 and take approximately four weeks. However, the car park will be impacted until March 2026. Works will take place in the below highlighted area:

Please plan ahead to accommodate these changes.
