Transperth acts on Canning Bridge confusion

23/02/2006

Transperth buses will not stop on Canning Bridge after this weekend.

From the start of services on Sunday (February 26), the Canning Bridge Interchange will be closed.  Buses will not stop there until further notice.

The decision is due mainly to the construction work for the Canning Bridge Train Station as part of New MetroRail’s Southern Suburbs Railway.

However, the situation has been exacerbated by various lane closures, including some generated by work further up the freeway, which meant buses could not safely access the stopping zones.

Because Transperth could not always get adequate notice of these closures, passengers were sometimes stranded on the bridge while buses passed them by.  To avoid any further confusion, it was decided to cancel all Interchange stops until construction work is finished, after which the situation will be reviewed.

From Sunday, passengers travelling to Perth will need to board the following bus services at these bus stops:

  • Routes 106 (via Canning Highway and the Causeway), 111, 158, 160, 881, 940 and 555 (to Curtin) – Canning Highway at Ogilvie Road (stop 10323)
  • Route 106 – Canning Highway after Roberts Street (stop 10325)
