Marcia McGuire

Title: The Unity of Life: Ballajura

Artist/s: Marcia McGuire

Year: 2024

Site: Ballajura Station

Location Detail: Artwork is integrated into sections of glazed skylights, centrally positioned in the main station roof/ceiling.

Medium: Ceramic print on glass

Description:

The skylights across the Ellenbrook train line form a suite of artworks dedicated to revealing the interrelationships of all living things across these areas. Marcia McGuire explored the Noongar social and ecological interdependence for Ellenbrook and Ballajura, while Penelope Forlano focused on the ecological interdependence of the flora and fauna for Whiteman Park, Morley and Noranda.

The skylights at Ballajura represent the area as a place of toolmaking practices; Kylee (boomerang), Yandi (coolamon), Kitj (spears), Miro (spear thrower), Koorndi (hitting sticks), Wanna (women’s digging sticks), Woonda (shields) and many more tools and items were made in this area and used for trading.
