The PTA is building a number of new bus depots to support the expanding public transport network. Additionally a number of existing bus depots will be upgraded to support the operation of electric buses.
These new depots will allow the existing bus fleet to grow as new passenger services are added to the bus network.
The addition of electric buses to the fleet is a part of the State Governments commitment to ‘Achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050’ for Public Transport in WA. This initiative supports Western Australia’s Climate Policy by moving away from diesel to greener, more environmentally sustainable sources of power.
The Australian Government has committed $125 million toward electric bus charging infrastructure in Perth, combined with a $125 million commitment from the Western Australian Government for the acquisition of 130 locally manufactured electric buses.
