Artist/s Statement:

The title of this piece is Boorongur. Every animal and plant species living in the country are related to us through our Boorongur, meaning our spiritual elder and blood brother relations. It identifies our people with strong connections to place and belonging, with all flora and fauna being Boorongur to a Bibbulmun Whadjuk person, family or district. Our children were taught their Boorongur Lore (nature worshipping laws) from a very early age and are told of the guardian spirit always watching over their totem. Our ancient sacred lore has instilled our deep understanding and intimate relationship to Boodja (country) and all that she creates. Our bodies are fed and healed by her and our spirits live eternally through her.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that this site may contain images or names of people who are deceased.
