Woort Koorl Boodja (Going on Country)

Hayley Thompson

Title: Woort Koorl Boodja (Going on Country)

Artist: Hayley Thompson

Year: 2024

Location: Bus in service in various areas

Description: Launched during NAIDOC Week 2024, the artwork is displayed as a wrap, covering the full length of a Transperth bus. The colours depict the six Noongar seasons, linked to the prevalent fauna which include swans, turtles, dolphins and kangaroos.

Artist Statement: Within this artwork, we see the flora change, experiencing a burst of different colours in each season. Since dreamtime, we have been able to experience each of the flora, which provides a form of mental, emotional, and/or physical healing to our people. We can see different fauna showing themselves to the community through the different seasons, some over multiple seasons.

This has been an important part of the Noongar people’s living style, as fauna played and still plays an important part in the food/meat/fish sources available to the community during each specific season.
