Design tender for future rail operations control centre released

The McGowan Government is looking for consultants to design what could become the Public Transport Authority's future rail operations control centre.

A newly released tender seeks a company to help develop a concept design which will enable the PTA to prepare a project business case.

In September 2017, the McGowan Government committed $7.4 million over two years to plan the new signalling system known as Automatic Train Control (ATC) for the Transperth network.

The new Automatic Train Control system would likely require a modern and resilient train control building.

ATC will revolutionise the way the Transperth rail network operates, gradually replacing the ageing signalling network with an automatic digital version.

The new ATC system will use state-of-the-art technology and enable more trains to travel more frequently on the rail network.

The new tender will enable the early steps in a process to deliver the project, which remains subject to Government approval.
