Take the Long Way Home

Joanna Lamb

Title: Take the Long Way Home

Artist/s: Joanna Lamb

Year: 2024

Site: Bayswater Station

Location Detail: Artwork is applied to the north-facing noise walls/retaining walls extending from the eastern end of the station running along Railway Parade for approximately 600m.

Medium: Acrylic paint

Description:

This extensive mural is a colourful panorama that connects Bayswater Station to the Ellenbrook Line, taking inspiration from the landscapes in ‘The Garden City’. Joanna engaged with the community to create a mural that features vignettes of plants and flowers from local gardens and wild birdlife from the area, all expressed through colour and abstracted form. Take the Long Way Home is a call to local residents and visitors to slow down on their journeys, to walk the length of the wall, and absorb their surrounds.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
