Anatomy of a Banksia

Mark Datodi

Title: Anatomy of a Banksia

Artist/s: Mark Datodi

Year: 2024

Site: Ballajura Station

Location Detail: Panels mounted into the architectural facade above the northern and southern entries to the station.

Medium: Perforated steel screen

Description:

Anatomy of a Banksia takes inspiration from the Banksia trees indigenous to the area around Ballajura Station including Bennett Brook and Bennett Springs where there is a large population. Photographs of the Banksia trees, their flowers, leaves and seedpods have been used to develop woodblock relief prints then translated into a perforated steel graphic. The work moves between representational and abstract as you view the screens from different angles, coming into focus as you approach the station.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
