Temporary train suspension extended

11/02/2004

The temporary interruption to train services on the Fremantle line has been extended to approximately 11.30am, and Transperth has arranged rail replacement buses.

Services between Showgrounds Station and Fremantle were suspended from 10.15am this morning when Transperth shut down power to the line at the request of the Fire and Emergency Services Authority.  Services between Perth and the Showgrounds are not affected.

FESA requested the power cut while it works to right a petrol tanker which overturned on a road adjacent to the rail line in Mosman Park, and clean up any spillage.

Originally the interruption to rail services was expected to last only 20-30 minutes, but it was extended after FESA had to bring in a heavy crane to complete its work.  The rail replacement buses will operate from the red rail replacement stops up and down the line between Fremantle and the Showgrounds for the duration of the stoppage.
