Smart names for Elizabeth Quay stations
The Esplanade train station and busport will be renamed as Elizabeth Quay Station and Elizabeth Quay Bus Station from January 31 next year.
Planning Minister John Day said renaming the public transport stations next to Elizabeth Quay would make the precinct easily identifiable for locals and visitors.
"Elizabeth Quay will become a destination - a landmark that is used by locals and tourists to move around the city," Mr Day said.
"Renaming the public transport stations near the quay will provide a relevant geographical marker for people catching the bus and train - one that will remain relevant into the future.
"We expect there could be as many as four million visits to the quay each year to take advantage of the BHP Billiton Water Park, nature playground and a variety of festivals and events. There will also be great food and drink options including a restaurant and rooftop bar to be operated by the owners of The Stables, Voyage at Elizabeth Quay and V Burger Bar.
"It makes sense to have a consistent precinct, similar to Sydney's Circular Quay and the nearby train station."
The Transperth ferry arrival and departure point will also move from Barrack Street Jetty to the new Elizabeth Quay Jetty inside the inlet.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the ferry location would be even closer to the renamed Elizabeth Quay train and bus stations.
"This position will further enhance the city's fully integrated public transport network, making it even easier for passengers to access the city and beyond," Mr Nalder said.
The existing train and bus stations were originally named after Esplanade Reserve which has now become part of Elizabeth Quay.
