New bus services to benefit Goldfields residents
- Trial bus services for Kambalda and Coolgardie a success
- Goldfields residents to benefit from regular service to and from Kalgoorlie
Goldfields residents will enjoy a permanent bus service between Kalgoorlie and the towns of Kambalda and Coolgardie following a successful year-long trial.
Transport Minister Bill Marmion said the two initial temporary TransGoldfields bus routes servicing Coolgardie and Kambalda would be made permanent, continuing the Liberal National Government's commitment to improving transport services in regional areas.
"The trial routes were introduced in November 2015 in response to community feedback. The trial proved very successful and we are really pleased with the level of patronage these services have maintained over the past year," Mr Marmion said.
"Making the services permanent is about making people's lives easier and safer - the new bus routes will be of great benefit to the residents of Kambalda, Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie.
"The services will be subject to a yearly review to ensure the community and the taxpayer are getting the best value for money for this investment.
"Continuation of these services will depend on ongoing patronage, so I urge all Kambalda, Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie passengers to use this excellent service and ensure it remains for the long term."
The initial $50,000 six-month trial was funded in part by a $20,000 contribution from Gold Fields Pty Ltd, and was extended by the Public Transport Authority for a further six months so full-year patronage could be assessed.
