Multiple changes to Transperth bus services

Changes will be made to dozens of Transperth bus services across the metropolitan area on February 1.

Transperth spokesman David Hynes said more than 70 services would undergo route and/or timetable changes.

He said there were various reasons for the changes.  

“For example, the temporary Wellington Street Bus Station will close so that work can start on constructing a second entrance to the new underground Perth Busport,” Mr Hynes said.

“Accordingly, eight services that would normally end there will now terminate at the Esplanade Busport and no longer service William Street.  The Yellow CAT stops on Wellington Street will also be affected.”

There are also significant changes to bus services to Perth metropolitan schools, including school specials.

“As many parents will be aware, Year Seven students will transition into high school for the first time this year, and this means greater demand for buses to get them to and from school,” Mr Hynes said.

“We have invested considerable time and effort in making sure these services are well planned but – as is the case every year – we expect it will take a little time for students to adjust to the changes as they settle into their travel patterns.”

He said parents should check the Transperth website (www.transperth.wa.gov.au) for more information, call the InfoLine (13 62 13) or speak to their school about the new arrangements.

“With a big number of changes forced upon us by the bus station closure and the new school arrangement, we took the opportunity to make refinements to some other routes,” Mr Hynes said.

“It’s no secret that we are constantly monitoring on-time running and patronage to see how well our buses are performing.  This shows us where we need to make adjustments to make sure that our buses are as efficient as possible.”

“This process has resulted in changes to bus stops at Cannington, Curtin University and Glendalough Stations, as well as time changes to services throughout Perth.

“The end result of all this is – if you catch a bus in Perth – you will probably notice a change.

“Be assured, our service planners will be watching closely over the next few months to ensure that these changes are meeting the needs of as many of our passengers, including schoolchildren, as possible.”
