Enhanced bus service for Ellenbrook
The Liberal-National Government has announced plans to enhance bus services in the Ellenbrook area.
Announcing the proposed upgrade, Transport Minister Simon O’Brien said the State Government, through the Public Transport Authority, had thoroughly investigated ways to enhance bus service levels and frequency in the area.
“At the heart of the Government’s proposal is the introduction of the Ellenbrook High Frequency Service - a direct link connecting the suburb with Bassendean train station and Morley bus station,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Services will run every 10 minutes during peak periods and at 15-minute intervals during non-peak periods.
“The Ellenbrook High Frequency Service will not only benefit the Ellenbrook community but also have a substantial flow-on effect for residents of Beechboro, Lockridge, Kiara and Eden Hill, where bus services will be more frequent.”
The Minister said two new local feeder services would also be introduced in the area to give those living in the other parts of Ellenbrook timely access to the high-frequency inter-suburb service.
“The feeder services will result in Ellenbrook North and Coolamon East being served by regular public transport for the first time,” he said.
“These changes will result in a 44 per cent increase in services to the Ellenbrook area, giving residents access to an additional 215,000 public transport kilometres per annum bringing its total to 600,000 public transport kilometres.
Mr O’Brien said enhancing bus services to Ellenbrook had long been a priority for the State Government.
“Since being elected I have been working with Swan Hills MLA Frank Alban to ensure that Ellenbrook’s voice is heard and that the community, which was so steadfastly ignored by the former Labor government, gets the enhanced bus services it deserves,” he said.
The Minister also said it was important to note that these changes were only an initial response to the public transport services in Ellenbrook. Further service improvements would be considered as part of a Metropolitan Service Development Programme, while money provided for detailed planning for a future rail service to Ellenbrook remained as allocated in the State Budget.
