The Public Transport Authority project to build noise barriers along sections of Kitchener Avenue, Rutland Avenue and Victoria Park Drive as part of the Stadium Transport Infrastructure Project was complete late 2019.
These noise barriers are free-standing solid barriers designed to force sound waves from the rail to spread around the barrier, reducing the direct sound to nearby properties. The barriers are expected to reduce noise levels in line with the State Planning Policy 5.4 and Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997.
Designed by the community
The noise barrier designs were informed by local community advisory groups, made up of residents located directly opposite the noise barriers.
The groups worked with the project architect and engineers to develop a design that complemented the area and created an appealing public aesthetic.
Victoria Park Drive
Spanning the existing residential area on Victoria Park Drive in Burswood, the 2.4 metre block work noise barrier aims to reduce rail noise within the limits specified in the State Planning Policy 5.4.

Rutland and Kitchener Avenue
Two noise barriers on Rutland Avenue and two noise barriers on Kitchener Avenue were built in areas where noise levels exceeded the limits set by State Planning Policy 5.4 and the Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997. The 2.4 metre noise barriers were built using block work.
