Holy Mackeral

Holy Mackeral

Gordon Mitchell

Title: Holy Mackeral

Artist/s: Gordon Mitchell

Year: 2012

Category: Urban Art Mural

Site: Meltham Station

Location Details: Meltham Station Platform

Description:

To enliven the station and entertain the commuters, sixteen richly coloured and textured art panels with a water theme were designed to fit these ‘blind’ enclosures. The works’ aluminium layers were textured and coated, allowing light to play over the surface and conjure up a sense of water flowing through the ‘fish tank’ panels. This gentle light play contrasts with the strong linear details of fish swimming upstream. The artwork transforms the station ambience, using surreal humour to ignite imaginations and tickle the fancy of waiting commuters. Special thanks for their assistance to Joel Mitchell, Fred and Susan Alberts.
