Midland Line disruption starts next week
Midland Line passengers are being encouraged to plan ahead, with a four-day, full-line shutdown to start next week.
From the evening of Thursday September 21 to the start of services on Tuesday September 26, train services on the Midland Line will be replaced by buses.
Transperth spokesman David Hynes said the disruption was required to facilitate major construction works on the $25 million East Perth Station Upgrade project.
“These works – which include laying new tracks, installing a new cross-over so trains can turn at the station, installing platform walls, pouring the foundation slab and installing the canopy and stair foundations – cannot be completed without a full shut down of the line, which involves turning off the overhead power,” Mr Hynes said.
“The closure has been scheduled to minimise disruption to passengers and will run over the Queen’s Birthday public holiday weekend, so that weekday peak-hour commuters are minimally affected.
“While this line closure will occur during the first three days of the Perth Royal Show, only the Midland Line will be impacted. Boosted train replacement buses will cater for Royal Show patrons.
“All other train lines will operate as usual, with extra Royal Show services stopping at Showgrounds Station on the Fremantle Line.”
The East Parade car park at East Perth Station will be closed from Monday September 18 until Friday the 29th. Passengers who park and ride at this station are encouraged to consider alternative options such as walking to the station or checking whether a timetabled bus may be more convenient.
Passengers travelling on the Midland Line to and from the Royal Show are eligible for free travel. Just grab a travel pass from your driver when you board the train replacement bus.
Replacement bus services can take longer than trains, so passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and leave extra time to complete their journey.

The $25m East Perth upgrade will make the station more modern, accessible and better able to host larger crowds when Perth Stadium opens in 2018.
