Quality rail safety education is a crucial tool to help reduce risk taking behaviour and to encourage young people to make safer, smarter choices around public transport. The Public Transport Authorities (PTA’s) Right Track program works in collaboration with TrackSAFE’s Be on the Safe Side program to offer educational resources for teachers to make it easy to teach rail safety to students no matter what their learning requirements might be.

Be on the Safe Side was developed for mainstream students with links to the national curriculum. These resources and activities can be used in conjunction with the overall Right Track program or by themselves to highlight the importance of responsible behaviour around the public transport system in Perth.

Be on the Safe Side has strong links to the Australian Curriculum Learning Areas of English; Health & Physical Education; and The Arts (Drama) and can be easily inserted into existing teaching programs. It aims to improve students’ knowledge, skills and attitudes towards rail safety using a strengths-based approach.

Right Track is currently endorsed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and counts towards one point for the Western Australian Certificate of Education.
