Delays on Joondalup and Mandurah Lines

Train services on the Joondalup Line are returning to normal after a passenger incident at Stirling Station this morning.

At 7.40am today, a man alighting from a Perth-bound train became stuck after his foot slipped between the train and the platform.

Train services were stopped across the line while Department of Fire and Emergency Services staff freed the man, who walked from the scene with St John Ambulance officers.

Trains resumed operating at 8.20am.

Services on the Joondalup Line are running, but will not be operating to timetable. There may also be residual delays on the Mandurah Line.

Transperth spokesman David Hynes said Perth’s urban train network has some of the smallest gaps between train and platform of any rail system in the world.

“While no rail network in the world has been able to completely eliminate the gap between train and platform, we do try our best to manage it by carefully designing new station platforms and installing rubber step buffers to railcars,” he said.

“It was just a freak coincidence that there was a similar incident at the same station in 2014.

“We thank our passengers for their patience this morning.”
