The Airport Line, delivered by METRONET, is Transperth’s newest train line, operating from Claremont to High Wycombe via Perth Station.

In preparation for opening the Airport Line the PTA ran a series of exercises to test the line's emergency response systems.

Airport Central Station can be smouldering in more ways than one: smoke testing took place on the line recently as part of tunnel ventilation commissioning works.

Time to go trainspotting! The first train entered the tunnel in the early hours of a Monday morning in March. Used as a blocker, the train assisted with a series of tests conducted on the tunnel ventilation system, measuring the resistance the train’s body provides to airflow.

High Wycombe Station is one step closer to completion, as the paint dries on a nature-themed mural decorating its sub-station wall. After spending time underground between 2017 and 2020, one of the TBM cutterheads is now standing tall and proud at the entry of the High Wycombe Station precinct. The 70-tonne industrial sculpture recognises the monumental feat of building Western Australia’s longest tunnels.

In merely 56 hours, over a weekend in mid-February, the rail team shifted the temporary city-bound Midland Line tracks to their final location. Emerging from the light, train services commenced right on time for Monday morning commuters.

Build a house in 35 seconds? Only in the world of Minecraft. Unless you have a time lapse camera and condense 80 days to showcase the construction of the above-ground section of the Bayswater portal building – brickwork, steel frames, cladding, sheeting and all.

With the placement of all 12 locally-fabricated steel modules complete, the 51m-wide station roof frame now stands proud and tall. Installation of roof sheeting, which will enable internal fit-out works during the rainy season, is scheduled next.

The project has reached yet another milestone, with the track laying process for the 8km twin tunnels now underway.

The Forrestfield Station roof is the biggest 3D puzzle on the project, with 600 steel lengths supporting about 2000 square metres of roof sheeting. Many Allen keys were required to turn this flat pack into a stunning architectural feature.

Bit by bit 120 tonnes of galvanised steel are being installed at Forrestfield Station, forming the frame for the station's roof. Watch the work of 25 days condensed into 30 seconds.

Works at Bayswater Junction are underway to prepare for the TBMs’ arrival in early 2020. Once broken through, Grace and Sandy will be disassembled and craned out of the dive structure in parts. As the ladies are rather heavy, crews have strengthened the ground with 700 tonnes of compacted limestone to ensure the crane load is adequately supported.
