Works are now underway to establish the construction site at Forrestfield. This is the first step in preparing for the arrival of the tunnel boring machines (TBMs) mid next year.

Once this is completed you will begin to see a lot more activity onsite, including the construction of the dive structure, in which the TBMs will be assembled and begin the journey towards Bayswater.

Over the next six months construction will start across all the major construction sites, following the path of the TBMs with works focusing at Forrestfield and then moving towards Bayswater. This includes construction works beginning at Perth Airport later this year to make way for the new Airport Central Station to be built.

PTA has completed a range of forward works in preparation for construction, the last being road works along Central Avenue in Redcliffe which are due for completion in November.

Site establishment begins at Forrestfield

The Forrestfield construction site, between Dundas and Milner roads, will be the base for key infrastructure for the Forrestfield-Airport Link project, and the launch site for the TBMs in mid-2017.

A Development Application (DA) for Early Works has been submitted to the Shire of Kalamunda by Salini Impregilo-NRW Joint Venture (SI-NRW). The DA, when approved, will set out conditions for the construction of key infrastructure needed to support the tunnelling project, and the operation of the site over the next four years.

The WA Planning Commission is now reviewing submissions received during the public comment period, and a final decision is expected mid-October.

To prepare the site for Early Works, a demolition program is currently underway to remove buildings within the construction site, followed by perimeter fence installation, testing of bores, site clearing and power supply.

Road works progressing well at Central Avenue

Road works along Central Avenue are progressing well, with kerbing now in place and the road once again able to be driven on. With this milestone achieved, construction works will shift to reinstating driveways and shared paths, and installing street lighting and landscaping.  As these elements are added, the road will become increasingly functional and visually more amenable.

Works along Central Avenue are due for completion mid-November. At this time Central Avenue will also be connected to Dunreath Drive in preparation for the upcoming staged closure of Brearley Avenue in January 2017.

SI-NRW is now looking to fill a number of key procurement packages for works starting this year.

Following the Aboriginal Business Briefing held in June, the Noongar Business Working Group has continued to meet and discuss how these procurement opportunities could be maximised for Aboriginal businesses. An Aboriginal Engagement Strategy has been developed for the project to ensure there are real, on the ground opportunities for Aboriginal participation on the Forrestfield-Airport Link project and SI-NRW is committed to directly engaging with the Aboriginal Business Community.

The jobs portal link is now live on the SI-NRW website and provides further information about the prequalification and tendering process, as well as early works packages available through the project. Click here to lodge your Supplier Prequalification Application.
