In 2008 the State Government committed to adding 3000 parking bays at stations along the Joondalup and Mandurah lines to meet passenger demand. At the time (September 2008) there were 10,473 car bays at stations on the two lines.
Since this time, the car park expansion project has evolved and more than $60million (as of July 2014) has been invested in car park expansions to add more than 5000 bays across the entire urban rail system.
The new bays are being created by either redesigning and extending existing car parks or adding new car park areas on nearby land.
Parking at stations is one of the many ways passengers can access train services. Passengers are also encouraged to use bus feeder services or cycle to the station.
