The PTA and the City of Canning are building new kerbside Peak Period Bus Priority Lanes along Ranford Road, between Bannister Road and Nicholson Road. The bus priority lanes will reduce congestion for all road users and significantly improve public transport in the area.
Stage One was completed in 2016, with Stages 2 and 3 completed in February 2017. Stage 4 is now underway and is due for completion mid-2018.
Peak Period Bus Priority Lane operations
Where: Ranford Road, between Bannister Road and Nicholson Road
When: The bus priority lanes only apply during peak hours, from 6.30am – 9am (towards Bannister Road) and 4pm - 6.30pm (away from Bannister Road).
How: The bus priority lanes will be identified through signage, yellow line marking and red asphalt.
Why: Bus priority lanes will move more people on buses along Ranford Road with an estimated combined five to six minute reduction in bus travel times. It also allows the PTA to easily introduce high-frequency services in the future should demand allow for it.
This arrangement has proved successful along South Street for many years, with benefits being enjoyed by bus passengers and road users alike.
